LP18 – Grilled Vegetables

It is time for Lasang Pinoy again, and for this 18th round our host is Toni of Wifely Steps who chose this month’s theme of vegetables! Whether you love them or hate them, we will be writing about Filipino or Filipino inspired vegetable dishes. In Our Kitchen, vegetables are a no brainer. Any will do, cooked or not, in any which way. I think our favorite way though is AS IS, vegetables that are as close to their natural flavors as possible; that is why salads, simply dressed are so popular at our table. Here are some ‘close-to-traditional’ (since I don’t ever do anything the authentic way) vegetable dishes that have been published on this blog previously.Vegetable AdoboPinakbet TagalogAmpalaya (bittermelon) with EggsKamote SaladGising-GisingGinisang Sayote These are variations on the theme or Filipino … Read entire article »

Menudo

We are currently on vacation in Wilmington, NC. Today, after touring Screen Gems Studios where the One Tree Hill series is shot, we got hungry from all that walking and went to Fajita Express just for a quick and cheap lunch. We had our doubts walking in because of name and the fact that it has drive through service, but what the heck, we were hungry. The usual fare like fajitas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, were passable enough. Asi had fish tacos which were quite good, but the surprise for me was this huge bowl of steaming menudo!I have seen pitiful immitations of menudo, but this was the real thing. It was full of tender tripes and ligament floating in a spicy and savory soup. It came with a platefull of … Read entire article »

Mara Pizza

Mara Pizza

This girl loves pizza. Especially the kind of pizza that she makes herself and gets to know really well if you know what I mean. She has gotten so good at this pizza making thing that she can now make her own pizza from start to finish. All I have to do is proof the yeast for her first, and she does the rest.   Pizza making is a great activity for kids as it is literally … Read entire article »

LP 17- Eggs, let me count the ways….

For this round of Lasang Pinoy, I decided to gather all the egg recipes that have been sitting waiting to be written up. This round, hosted by Alfbeercan of Eat Matters is all about eggs! How many ways can you do egg? Probably too many to count. The egg is probably the most versatile food product there is. It can go from delicate to hardy, from simple to sublime as easily as water pours from plastic to crystal and vice versa. Eggs can be served for breakfast, lunch and dinner, even dessert! Not many food items can claim that. So is it any wonder that my photobucket, upon review is peppered with diffent versions of egg dishes? Here are a few of my favorite ways with eggs: These are all variations of the … Read entire article »

Sassy Sarciado

I call this Sassy Sarciado because it is based from the Pinoy Cook’s recipe. From the comments on her post, I figured out that the type of meat she referred to as ‘batok’ (loosely translated as nape-or-back-of-the-neck) is commonly known here as chuck. Here is my version. One thing I hate to do is wash dishes, so if you’re a regular reader of this blog, you will know how I like one-pot meals. This certainly qualifies as that. It could be a meal by itself, but also great over rice or with some hearty fresh-baked bread.3 lbs Beef chuck, sliced into pieces 1/4 inch thick1/2 of a head of garlic (6-10 cloves), chopped2 onions, sliced6 roma tomatoes, diced2 Tablespoons tomato paste2 bay leaves2 cups frozen Mixed Vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)6 small … Read entire article »
