Bruschetta & Sabra Hummus Giveaway

In the wake of watching the movie Julie and Julia, The Clone decided she would like bruschetta for a light dinner. She actually wanted to fry the bread too, just like in the movie, but I just could not do it (as deliciously browned and crispy it looked on screen). We opted instead to cook it in the oven as we usually do. We picked tomatoes and basil from our backyard and the only thing we needed was some bread so off to the market we went. One of the greens that I absolutely love is sweet potato leaves. If you’ve never tried it, I definitely recommend the young leaves from a sweet potato plant. This is the sole reason that we even bother planting sweet potatoes in our garden. So when I received a jar of virgin coconut oil to sample, I decided, why not marry the things I love together? Halo-Halo Dreaming

The food that you grow up with follows you the rest of your life. No matter where you go, now matter how your circumstances change, the food that grew you will follow. That’s how it is with us Filipinos and our favorite summertime treat, halo-halo. Halo-halo literally means mix-mix. It’s a mixture of everything good, sweet and delicious floating amidst crushed ice, milk and ice cream. The yearning intensifies as temperatures climb as it did with us this past week of 90 degree plus with humidity weather. So my daughter Asi made us these treats to cool off.
