Chinese Braised Ribs
My photographic skills do not do these ribs justice but my husband declared them the best Chinese braised ribs, even better than any he’s ever had in a restaurant! Now that’s some endorsement and he lived up to it by eating almost half the pot by himself I liked it because, well, it was delicious if I do say so myself! But I liked it the most because of how easy it is to … Read entire article »
Kalyn’s Pork with Paprika & Mushrooms
It’s been over a month since I revamped this blog yet I hadn’t posted anything new. I have no excuse, unfortunately other than I just hadn’t felt like it! I have still been cooking and visiting blogs for inspiration. Just haven’t been posting them. So here’s one recipe that I picked up from one of my favorite blogs, Kalyn’s Kitchen. We eat a hella lot of pork at our house and it’s nice to come up with … Read entire article »
The Avocado League Blog Tour
I have been searching for inspiration for an original avocado recipe since I got notice for the Avocado League Blog Tour. But really, how original can one get with an ingredient that, in my opinion, is best consumed fresh and uncooked? I truly love avocado in all it’s fresh glory. I just can’t imagine subjecting its natural freshness and unctuousness to heat. It just seems so against nature. So for the “Big Hit” Contest and Avocado League Blog Tour, I offer two very simple recipes that showcases the natural goodness of the avocado. One of the requirements for this contest to to feature, along with the avocado, something that embodies the spirit of their hometown. Well it’s kind of hard for me to pinpoint my hometown since I am a California … Read entire article »
Coconut Flavored Pork Stirfry
Because we’ve been enjoying the virgin coconut oil that we received from Tropical Traditions, I have been using it in almost every dish I cooked in the last week or two. This is one dish that was quickly put together on a weeknight and a delicious change from our usual stirfry dish. You can taste and smell the coconut oil but it’s not overpowering. It’s just the right balance to make you think about what that different flavor is. If you’d like to try some virgin coconut oil, make sure you enter the Virgin Coconut Oil Giveaway on my review blog, Found Not Lost. … Read entire article »
Pork and Sitaw (long beans) Stirfry – the lazy way
I was feeling lazy, didn’t really feel like cooking the other day, and I wanted to play with my new camera but I still have to feed the family. So I decided to do something quick and enlist some help from the big girls. I had Asi chopping the garlic and onions and The Clone cut up the beans for me. All I did was cut up the meat and cook it the lazy stir fry way. What’s the lazy way? Read on… … Read entire article »

Buttermilk Fried Pork Chops
I almost didn’t post this recipe because it’s so simple and we cook it all the time. So when my family started asking for pork chop this week, I realized it must have been a while since I’ve cooked them. They usually don’t have to ask! Whether you serve them with or without gravy, they are tender and delicious. The buttermilk marinade does a great job of making them tender and keeping them moist and also the crunchy crust is all about the buttermilk. Just serve them with lots of veggies then you won’t feel so guilty for eating something fried. This time, they were served with some collard and turnip greens from our garden. INGREDIENTS: Center Cut Pork Chops 2 cups Buttermilk Salt & Pepper Marinade the pork chops in buttermilk with a … Read entire article »

Bunny Baos
Did you have a good Easter Sunday? It was another excuse to feast for us, so we ended up having a cooking weekend. My daughter Asi had a couple of friends over last Saturday. They were going to go on a picnic to celebrate her birthday which is next weekend, but it rained pretty hard on Friday night and we just knew the park was going to be too soggy to have a picnic. Instead, we stayed home and cooked, and at and cooked and ate some more. One of the things we cooked up were these steamed buns (siopao or sieu bao). I made steamed pork buns before (siopao adobo) and it’s always a hit with the girls. When I came across these bunny shaped baos from Just Hungry, I … Read entire article »
LaPiS ~ SQUARE
This has become a regular on our menu ever since we finally figured out how to get that crunchy and sinfully good skin and the fork tender meat. My entry for this week’s Lasang Pinoy Sunday (LaPiS) is a bit late because the weekend got a little hectic, and well, I’m also pre-occupied with reading a novel and couldn’t put it down all weekend. The theme for LaPiS this week is SQUARE. As I was looking through my food photos and saw this pork roast with the square pieces of crunch on top and decided that it’s time to re-post the recipe. Here is what we make when we have hankering for some lechon. … Read entire article »
