Breyers Smooth and Dreamy

Some days I feel like I ought to open a savings account just for our ice cream budget. I am realizing now how true my statement was sometime ago when I said that I needed to earn some “ice cream money” by blogging! Now that it’s summer time, I can’t keep ice cream in the freezer! They just magically disappear as soon as I put them in there! “SOMEONE” and “WHO” are the culprits. How do I know? All I hear is ‘SOMEONE ate all the ice cream again!’ or ‘WHO ate all the ice cream!’

So when I received an offer to try out the new Smooth & Dreamy ice cream bars and sandwiches from Breyers, I jumped at the chance!

It was timely too, as last weekend was also our annual family reunion and the temperature was in the high 90’s and humid. It was the perfect time to bring some ice cream treats.

Being that these bars and sandwiches were also individually packaged, it was a perfect treat to bring a crowd. They were a hit with everyone, young and old!

Smooth and Dreamy

Breyers Smooth and Dreamy bars and sandwiches have less fat and calories than regular ice cream bars and sandwiches. That’s right, no one even noticed that these bars have less fat and calories in addition to not having any artificial colors and flavors. The bars and sandwiches come in these flavors: Chocolate Caramel Brownie, Vanilla Caramel Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, Vanilla Fudge Brownie, and Triple Chocolate Chip.

My family loved all the flavors and I believe some people had more than one! As a reward, I gave away the FREE coupons for Breyers Smooth and Dreamy as raffle prizes and everyone who got one went away smiling.

Try these out next time you’re at the grocery store. I swear you won’t even know they are low calorie and low fat.

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Breyers and received products necessary to facilitate my review. In addition, I received a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.”

Pringles’ U Taste We Donate Campaign

Pringles Multi GrainPringles launches their newest product, Pringles Multigrain, with the “U Taste. We Donate” campaign. Pringles partnered with celebrity chef, Tyler Florence to end childhood hunger in America by giving consumers an easy way to contribute to this great cause. Did you know that almost 25% of children in America faced hunger at some point? And no, it’s not the kind of hunger that my kids whine about when they get home from school and there’s nothing to graze on before dinner; the kind of hunger they are talking about is the one that happens when there just isn’t anything to eat at all in the house. It’s hard to believe that America which is supposed to be the land of plenty has people that are as bad off as those in some third world countries, but it happens; and it happens too often for comfort. It should not be happening in this country and it is a problem that can be solved if we all do just a little.

Wine Racks for Our Kitchen

This is a sponsored post
My husband has been eyeing a built in wine rack at a restaurant that is similar to the one in this photo, for the longest time. Although he loves building things himself, he doesn’t always have the time.

He loves wine, and I do too. We both like having some on hand when we are in the mood for when whe have company over. When we have friend over, they also inevitably bring wine as gifts so we end up having extra bottles at one time or another. We can probably store them in the refrigerator, but some wines are just not ideal chilled. Ergo, a space to store wine, aside from the pantry, has been needed in our kitchen for a while. These wine racks seem to be a good solution for us right now without having to build a wine cellar (my wishfull thinking here). They carry different styles in different materials like wood or metal. They also have some cool looking hanging stye wine racks, but our taste and our old kitchen leans more to the traditional wood designs. My husband really likes this one and he already has a side of the kitchen picked out where he can place it and would still look built in.

We are currently on vacation in Wilmington, NC. Today, after touring Screen Gems Studios where the One Tree Hill series is shot, we got hungry from all that walking and went to Fajita Express just for a quick and cheap lunch. We had our doubts walking in because of name and the fact that it has drive through service, but what the heck, we were hungry. The usual fare like fajitas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, were passable enough. Asi had fish tacos which were quite good, but the surprise for me was this huge bowl of steaming menudo!

I have seen pitiful immitations of menudo, but this was the real thing. It was full of tender tripes and ligament floating in a spicy and savory soup. It came with a platefull of condiments: dried oregano, dried chile, chopped onions, cilantro, and lime. It would have been great with a huge glass of margarita, but as I was driving and sitting at a table full of kids, that wouldn’t have looked too well. This bowl was huge! I was so excited that I forgot to take a photo before I started eating. This photo was taken after I’ve had my fill and it was still over half full! As menudo takes a long time to cook, they only serve this on weekends. The best thing is the price. The huge bowl, with condiments and fresh, hot corn tortillas only cost $4.99.

For dessert, they have a freezer at the front of the restaurant, in front of the bar, with some exotic, delicious popsicles. We each got one flavor of passion fruit, coconut, strawberry, and some blue stuff that The Clone chose, and they were all delicious!

Now, I love dives with good food. My husband probably won’t go into this place, but if you like good, cheap food, this place is for you. Jade who is usually picky with where and what she eats was happy with this place and even liked their refried beans which tasted like it didn’t come out of a can. If you are ever in Wilmington, NC on a weekend and you’re into menudos, drop by this unassuming place.

Titos Tacos

Titos Tacos is not only a dive, but is also an institution. If you grew up in West Los Angeles, you would know what I’m talking about. They have been at this location for over twenty years. The line never ends, no matter what time of day you go. If you talk to the people in line, you would inevitably run into people like me who have moved out of the area but still come back for a dose whenever they are back in town. A couple of ladies I was talking to while waiting for my order now live outside of L.A., but happened to be in the neighborhood, so they were stocking up on burritos and tamales.

The menu is simple and straight forward, the prices have not changed much either.

The food is nothing special by most standards, just chile con carne, made into tacos, burritos, tamales or enchiladas. Served alone or with beans and/or rice, and the always present homemade chips and salsa. Actually everything is homemade, even the guacamole. Titos Tacos is comfort food. Something you remember from your childhood that somehow has infused into your veins.

Though the lines usually stretch all the way to the sidewalk, the wait is never as long as you would expect, thanks to the well oiled operation that Titos Tacos is. They have a large staff of ladies and men who turn out your orders in a jiffy. It really is a marvel to watch.

The food is just as comforting as I remember, when we used to drive down from our high school, which was just down the street on Venice, for lunch or for an after school snack before heading home. One of my high school friends who went home to the Philippines for college would always make a point of getting her Titos Tacos fix whenever she came to visit and she always ordered extra to freeze and take back with her. I do the same, I make this yearly pilgrimage now that I live out of state, just to get a dose of nostalgia.
